WHAT'S NEW? (2009)

May 20, 2009 • Boni Pueri in Pantheon, Rome

BONI PUERI, The Czech Boys Choir, performed in Pantheon, Rome, on the occasion of the Europe Day, the fifth anniversary of the accession of ten countries to the EU, and on the occasion of 1 400 years since the consecration of the Pantheon.

The concert was dedicated mainly to the audience from the Holy See and catholic organisations. The concert was introduced by a few thoughts of His Eminence Tomáš Cardinal Špidlík. The predominantly sacral music was performed at a time that gave an extraordinary opportunity to contemplate upon the historical connections that came to mind when we look at this year's "secular" and religious anniversaries and that reminded us of the importance of Christianity for the Czech lands and Europe. The Pantheon in Rome was consecrated 1 400 years ago. His Eminence Josef Cardinal Beran, a symbol of religious oppression targeted at the church in Czechoslovakia, passed away forty years ago. Ten countries acceded to the EU five years ago.
